“Our candidates are not newbies, but have gained experience in EHF matches such as in the Champions League. But it means something special to be nominated for an EHF EURO event,” says Ehrmann-Wolf, who outlines that the general support and preparation for a Women’s EHF EURO is exactly the same as for a men’s tournament.
“The training and conditioning, as well as fitness assessment proved to be successful and the same will be repeated with the pairs of the Women’s EURO,” adds Bebetsos.
A total of 23 female EHF pairs are currently active, while another four are temporarily sidelined due to pregnancy or injury and health-related issues. It is the clear aim of the EHF to increase this number in future, says Bebetsos.
“The recruitment of several young female referees in recent years highlights the need for their continued development. These promising referees have previously participated in the EHF Young Referee Programme and represent an important pool of talents for the future and they require careful attention and mentoring as EHF referees too.”
The future has already begun, not only for those players fighting for the EHF EURO 2024 tickets this week, but also for a promising young generation of female referees all over Europe.
