New-style EHF Wheelchair EURO ready for throw-off

The EHF Wheelchair EURO 2025 is the first four-a-side European Championship, after previous editions used the six-a-side format. Read more about the why and what of this format change in All you need to know about the EHF Wheelchair EURO 2025.

• Nine teams are on the starting grid, making this the biggest EHF Wheelchair EURO to date.
• The tournament is hosted by Lithuania, newcomers to the sport, as wheelchair handball didn't even exist in the country just over a year ago.
• Lithuania find themselves in group A, which is headlined by the Netherlands and Croatia, who have both won international wheelchair events in the past: The Dutch won the European Nations’ Tournament in 2015 and 2016, Croatia did so in 2019.
• Group A includes five teams in total, as Norway and Hungary complete the line-up in this section.
• Portugal and France are the leading contenders in group B, which also includes Spain and Romania, as they were the only two European nations competing at the 2024 World Championship in Egypt, which was also carried out in the four-a-side format.
• At that tournament, France beat Portugal 2:1 in a tight quarter-final clash, then lost the semi-final to hosts Egypt and the bronze medal match to Brazil.
• Portugal won the last European Championship — in 2022, when they also hosted the event, which was carried out in the six-a-side format and counted as a combined European and World Championship.
• The preliminary matches are played from Wednesday through Friday; the semi-finals, placement matches, and medal matches take place on Sunday, with the big final scheduled for 19:30 CET. The full match schedule including throw-off times is available here.

Where to watch the EHF Wheelchair EURO 2025?

All matches will be streamed live on EHFTV and can be watched for free after signing up. Geo-restrictions may apply to fans in France and Portugal during the group stage. There are also three live TV broadcasters:

> LTU — Sport1 (only matches involving the Lithuanian team)
> FRA — HandballTV (only France matches and the final)
> POR — RTP (only Portugal matches and the final)
