Bosnia Herzegovina
Bosnia and Herzegovina enter their third straight EHF EURO and their fourth major competition in their history after participating at the 2015 IHF Men's World Championship, EHF EURO 2020 and EHF EURO 2022.
They are coming to the final tournament with their new head coach, Irfan Smajlagic. The legendary former Croatian player took over the helm in September 2022, succeeding Ivica Obrvan who left the team a couple of days before qualification for the 2023 IHF Men's World Handball Championship. After failing to qualify, Bosnia and Herzegovina entered a new era with Smajlagic.
With Smajlagic debuting in his new job right ahead of the qualifications for the EHF EURO 2024, Bosnia and Herzegovina struggled in the first matches against Montenegro and Slovenia, but they made a significant step forward in the rematches and with two convincing wins against Kosovo they finished second in group 7.
The 'Dragons' will once again rely on their most experienced players such as goalkeeper Benjamin Buric, his twin brother Senjamin on the line, Marko Panic and Mirsad Terzic. Still, there are a good number of younger players who are gaining experience in strong European clubs and also in the domestic league. That mixture could be Bosnia and Herzegovina's main force in a strong group with Sweden, the Netherlands and Georgia.
Still waiting for their first-ever win at the EHF EURO, Bosnia and Herzegovina are eager to make that happen and to top their two previous results at the European championship – 23rd place.

Key Players
Benjamin Buric is a regular on the Bosnian team, having played at tournaments including the IHF Men’s World Championship 2015 and EHF EURO 2020 and 2022. He often plays on the national team alongside his twin brother Senjamin, and the two have played together for four clubs in their careers – Maglaj, Izvidjac, Borac and Gorenje. Buric currently plays for Bundesliga side SG Flensburg-Handewitt, joining from Wetzlar in 2018, and won the league in his first season with the club. He was selected in the Handball Bundesliga team of the season for 2016/17.
Mirzad Terzic is one of the most experienced players in the Bosnia and Herzegovina team with more than 170 caps. He is an important defensive player, but also the team's all-time top scorer with his tally at 459 ahead of EHF EURO 2024. Terzic joined Polish side Orlen Wisla Plock in 2020 after 11 years spent in Veszprém; he played three EHF FINAL4 matches with the Hungarian club, but did not lift the EHF Champions League trophy. Terzic's career has also seen him play for Zeljeznicar, Izvidjac, Zagreb and Celje.
Head Coach
Irfan Smajlagic took over the national team in September 2022 after Bosnia and Herzegovina parted ways with head coach Ivica Obrvan. At club level, Smajlagic currently leads Borac Banja Luka, but he has also coached Cakovec, Bosna Sarajevo, Zamet, Lokomotiva, Egypt and the Croatian junior national team. As a player, the former right wing played for Borac Banja Luka, Medvescak, Ivry Handball, USAM Nîmes Gard, PPD Zagreb, Zamet, HC Livry-Gargan, Girondins de Bordeaux HBC. He was part of the Yugoslavia and Croatia national teams, winning Olympic Games gold in 1996 and bronze in 1988 in addition to silver at the 1995 IHF Men's World Championship and bronze at the EHF EURO 1994. As an assistant coach to Lino Cervar in Croatia, Smajlagic won gold at the London 2012 Olympic Games and 2009 World Championship.
