Montenegro
The Golden Lions reached the EHF EURO 2022 main round for the first time in Montenegro's history under the previous coach, Zoran Roganovic. They finished 11th, a record-high ranking at the European championships, and followed that up with an 18th-place finish at the 2023 IHF Men's World Championship.
However, Roganovic's tenure came to an end after the World Championship and the results in the EHF EURO 2024 Qualifiers did not go to plan, as they lost three of their last four matches. But, they still successfully booked a place at EHF EURO 2024 under the newly-appointed Vlado Sola after they finished as one of the best-ranked third-placed teams.
The Montenegro squad is a perfect example of experience and youth, with the likes of goalkeeper Nebojsa Simic, left wing Milos Vujovic and right back Branko Vujovic now joined by centre backs Radojica Cepic and Vasilje Kaludjerovic as well as right wing Luka Radovic who are eager to stake a claim on the international stage.
At the EHF EURO 2024 Montenegro are drawn in group C alongside Iceland, Hungary and neighbours Serbia. It will be a tough challenge for the Golden Lions, but they will certainly bring passion and the support of plenty of enthusiastic fans.

EHF competition history
Key Players
Miloš Božović was the second-best scorer for Montenegro at EHF EURO 2018 and is a strong left back with a very precise shot. He is an experienced player with 31 international caps ahead of EHF EURO 2024, which will be his fifth appearance at a European championship. Božovic joined Ivry for the 2021/22 season from Tatabanya; he previously played for PPD Zagreb, Gorenje Velenje, Valladolid, Ciudad Real and Budvanska Rivijera.
Branko Vujovic made his national team debut in 2015 in the EHF EURO 2016 qualifiers, and played his first major tournament at EHF EURO 2020 – featuring in two of Montenegro’s three matches. He was Montenegro's joint top scorer during the EHF EURO 2024 Qualifiers, netting 30 goals. Vujovic spent two years on loan to Celje, returning to Kielce for 2019/20, and joined TSV Hannover-Burgdorf on a three-year deal in summer 2022, however, he still remains under contract with Kielce until 2027.
Head Coach
Vlado Sola took over the Montenegrin national team in February after the 2023 IHF Men's World Championship, succeeding Zoran Roganovic. The EHF EURO 2024 will be his first major tournament at the helm of Montenegro and the 55-year-old is leading a national team as a head coach for the first time in his career. However, he is an experienced coach who has led various clubs across the globe from HC Zagreb to Al Duhail in Qatar and Beijing Sport University in China. As an active goalkeeper, Sola won both the 2003 IHF Men's World Championship and the Athens 2004 Olympic Games.
