Serbia hope the EHF EURO 2024 will cap off all the hard work they have done in the last three years since Spanish coach Toni Gerona took over the helm. Failing to progress further from the preliminary round at EHF EURO 2020 after numerous problems and finishing 11th at the IHF Men's World Championship did not show the real power of Gerona's team.

Serbia, after winning the silver medal at the EHF EURO 2012, have not featured among the top teams since and the last time they sealed a main round berth was at the EHF EURO 2018 in Croatia. Thus, their main goal is to leave their mark in Germany.

They already showed what they are capable of in qualification group 2. Their successes included beating Norway 25:24 and leaving Slovakia and Finland without a place in the final tournament; just as they defeated the 2020 Olympic champions France 27:24 and drew the return fixture 26:26 in the EHF EURO 2022 qualification.

With the core of the team the same in recent years, and their experienced players now being in their 30s, Serbia are eyeing at least main round participation. Their key could be defence backed by duo Dejan Milosavljev and Vladimir Cupara between the posts as they have one of the most well-balanced groups in the competition – Hungary, Iceland and Montenegro.
