Sola stun CSM, Podravka claim second win
Sunday brought round 6 of the EHF Champions League Women 2026/27 season to a close with just two matches, but no shortage of excitement. Podravka celebrated their second win of the season with a convincing home victory over Nykøbing Falster Håndbold, while Sola Håndballklubb pulled off a major upset in Romania, defeating CSM Bucuresti to claim only their second EHF Champions League victory.
We have showed this year in Champions League that we are close to the big teams. Today we played great in defence, CSM gave us a chance and the girls took advantage of that and they played well in attack. To win against CSM in Bucharest is a great win for us! We saw what happened last week, when Esbjerg struggled a lot.
It was a tough game, I could feel that we were not there mentally. We tried to change the first six the whole game and when we came close we started to miss chances. The players were lost on the court in many situations and I can say that the whole team was not mentally there and we need to speak about this.
I think we prepared really well for this match. We knew that their main weapon was their seven-on-six play. That’s where we conceded the most goals, but I think we managed to stop them quite well. That, along with our own attack, was the key difference
It was a game as we expected. We know that they are really good on home court. We had hoped that we could pressure them a little bit more. We struggled a lot in the game one-on-one, I think we did it better in the second half. But we made it tough for us in the first half. Podravka played their game really good. In the video analysis we looked at a lot of the stuff they play, but we didn't manage to stop that.
