Türkiye are one of two debutants at the Women's EHF EURO 2024 alongside the Faroe Islands, and the Costica Buceschi-led squad secured a place at the European championship as the best-ranked team out of the third-placed teams in the qualifiers.

Türkiye's path to making history was not easy at all as they were placed in a difficult group alongside Montenegro, Serbia and Bulgaria; the draw against Serbia on home soil was crucial in helping them book a ticket for Debrecen.

While the Turks displayed decent performances against the other opponents in the qualifiers, the match against the better-ranked and far more experienced Serbian side was like coming-of-an-age moment for the squad, installing belief within the dressing room that they can compete with the best. Türkiye then proved to be a tough nut to crack for Montenegro as they just narrowly lost by a couple of goals in Rize.

Even though they are the debutants and the least experienced side in group A, Türkiye are not to be underestimated by their far more experienced opponents and the performances against the Balkan neighbours showed their potential.

Right wing Beyza İrem Türkoğlu (33) and left back Aslı İskit Çalışkan (32) were key during the qualifiers, combining for 65 goals, and they are set to be Türkiye's main players in Debrecen too.

With the Women's EHF EURO 2024 being Türkiye's first-ever major tournament in their history, Buceschi's squad has nothing to lose and everything to gain ahead of the Women's EHF EURO 2026, where Türkiye will be one of the co-hosts of the next edition of the tournament.
