Day review 2: Portuguese sides grab away wins
The EHF European League Men has reached its halfway point, with round 3 finishing with eight matches on Tuesday. All German teams continue to have a perfect record, as THW Kiel proved too strong for RK Nexe, and MT Melsungen defeated Valur. In one of the most exciting matches of the day, FC Porto snatched a win at HC Vardar 1961, and another Portuguese side, Sport Lisboa e Benfica, were also victorious away from home, beating TATRAN Prešov.
They were better than us tonight. The first half we played well, especially defensively, then they started playing seven on six, and we didn't have many solutions for that. They scored a lot of goals. We also made a lot of mistakes in attack, and that was crucial.
I'm really happy for the win. It was important for us, and we were good in defence. We played well in defence, but a little bad in attack, with some technical errors. In the second part we played seven on six, and for the first time this season we played well seven on six. We also had a good goalkeeper who saved many important balls.
The road to success was with a defence, which worked really well. At the beginning we didn't play really well, but
also not really bad. The problem was that we missed great opportunities to score. In the second half we were in trouble when they came back to three goals' difference, but we scored from the fastbreaks and it makes a difference
today.
We expected a difficult match. We knew exactly what the Spanish team were going to do. We didn't control seven on six or direct passes to the wings. We had a lot of problems in defence. We must improve that for the next match.
